NGC 5128 Centaurus A is a massive elliptical galaxy with a supermassive 55 million solar masses black hole at its heart and it lies in the constellation of Centaurus. It is about 12 million light-years away and is the most prominent radio galaxy in the sky. The total stellar mass of the Centaurus A galaxy is estimated to be approximately 200 billion times the mass of our Sun. The dark band across the centre harbours large amounts of gas, dust and young stars. Through a binocular it appears as small, faint, elongated oval-shaped glow. The central dark lane is barely visible. Apparent magnitude 6.84.
