Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) is a small dark nebula located about 1,375 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Orion. Undoubtedly the best known example of a dark nebula in the entire heavens. It is one of the most identifiable nebulae because of its resemblance to a horse’s head. NASA describes it as rising from a sea of dust and gas like a giant seahorse. Williamina Fleming discovered the nebula in 1888 and identified in her log entry simply as "A curious dark patch".
