NGC 2516 (also known as the Southern Beehive or Caldwell 96) is a bright, young open star cluster in the southern constellation Carina. Because it is so bright, C 96 is visible with the naked eye in dark skies. It appears as a hazy patch, but a pair of binoculars will resolve some of its roughly one hundred stars. It is estimated to be approx. 135 million years old, and many of the surrounding stars in this field are considered to have been ejected from this cluster. Apparent magnitude 3.8.
