NGC 4833 The Southern Butterfly is a globular cluster situated in the very southerly constellation Musca at a distance of 21,500 light years from Earth. It is located near the Coalsack Nebula and is partially obscured by this dusty region of the galactic plane. This is a massive, metal-poor globular cluster that shows evidence for multiple generations of stars. It is probably 12.5 billion years old. NGC 4833 has an estimated mass of roughly 250,000 times the mass of the Sun. It is too faint to be seen with the naked eye but a pair of 10x50 binoculars from a dark location shows it as a small circular ball of mist or cloudy patch, individual stars are not resolved. Apparent magnitude 7.0.
