M 70 NGC 6681 is a globular cluster of stars to be found in the south of Sagittarius. It is about 29,400 light years away from Earth and around 6,500 light-years from the Galactic Centre. It has a very small core radius of 0.22 light years and a radius of 34 light years. The core region of M 70 experiences a phenomenon known as core collapse, more and more stars are pushing their way into the centre, so that the star density there is higher than in average globular clusters. It is very old globular star cluster, containing some 180,000 solar masses and having formed just about a billion years after the Big Bang. In binoculars, M70 appears like an out-of-focus star and is best observed with a telescope. Apparent magnitude 7.8
